Unused Short URL

What is a Short URL?

Short URLs are short, easy to type and often easy to remember, web addresses that when visited, redirect the visitor to another, usually longer or more difficult to remember web address.  They are unique, globally. Unlike a regular domain they can be used for two destination long urls, one for desktops and one for phones and tablets.

Example: Would it be easier to print this in an ad, say it on TV or on the radio, or send in a text message:

This: https://dpsapps.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/DPKB/pages/1215823865/Unused+Short+URL

or this: rewr.app/goshorty

That's it!

It's really that basic. What's nice about them is that they can be changed. So if you print 10,000 Christmas cards with a short URL printed on them, then only hand out 3500 in the first year, the next year you can use the same batch of cards with the same short URL printed on them, but direct anyone who types in that short url to a new, updated and current page.

Where can I get one?

Short URL makers are out there. Bitly.com is a great service for short urls and they offer a great free service (and premium tiers as well) with tracking and analytics and an API and all sorts of goodies. They don't allow you to edit a short URL once it's created, and that doesn't work well for some.

How to Make a Short URL.

If you have access to make a short url, you'll find that in your Solutions Dashboard in the side menu under "Extensions and APIs."

You'll need to have the long URLs you'll need to set up, as well as some good ideas for short URL strings for your URL.

We currently offer domains to choose from listed as follows:  rewr.app/ ~ url.bike/ ~ url.camp/ ~ url.boat/

(one or more may not be available, and others may become available, at any time)

Will it cost anything?

Any non-premium short URL is free to make and free to distribute and belongs to you for as long as you are a Digital power Solutions customer and do not use it to promote anything illegal. (smile)
There are Premium URLs as well, but you can read more about those here: Premium Short URLs
